Concerns above safe pipe flow:
KTI pipe dampers in the Al Zour power plant in Kuwait
Sudden changes in flow volume in pipe systems carrying liquids and gases can cause unwelcome pressure surges. The operators of the Al Zour power plant in Kuwait wanted to protect their pipes from such stress factors. KTI provided the solution for specific vibration damping.
Any abrupt change in flow volumes in pipes for liquids or gases causes pressure surges. These in turn generate vibrations in the piping system, which in turn leads to increased and dangerous strain on the pipes and connection points.
When KTI engineers were tasked with solving this problem, they quickly came up with a solution tailor-made for the specific case. KTI pipe dampers reduce vibrations significantly by means of a stamp dipping into a viscose mass. The big advantage is that the damping effect increases proportionally to the vibration speed – immediately. A ring indicator shows the possible range of movement for the heat insulation of the pipe. As a standard, 40 mm is possible in all directions. KTI supplies pipe dampers for pipe loads of 2.5 kN to 400 kN.
Other advantages of this KTI solution: The reaction force of the pipe following heat expansion is negligible due to the low speed. The pipe dampers are low in maintenance and non-wearing. The viscose material also has an almost unlimited service life. Different damping masses are available for various temperature ranges.
Yet another KTI solution that proves its value through enhanced flexibility, short delivery times and low cost.
